Give up Aul yer Sins was the premier short in what became an animated documentary series, featuring the real recordings made by Peig Cunningham in the 1960’s, of inner city children recounting the stories of John the Baptist, the birth of Jesus, the Crucifixion, and other biblical events in their own adorable words. The short was directed by Cathal Gaffney and was nominated for an Oscar in 2001. It is so strikingly genuine and sweet, and made even more charming by the choices to include the “film crew” IN the animation.
