Luminaris

Shorts

The story of Luminaris was written based on the tango “Stars Rain” composed by Oscar Maderna in 1948. The technique used throughout the film is called “pixilation” which involves animating actors in stop motion. It took over 60 days to shoot the film, spread out over 2 and a half years. There was zero budget for location fees, everything (not shot on greenscreen or studio) was public and borrowed. The film premiered at Annecy in 2011, and immediately put Juan Pablo Zaramella on the map. “Luminaris” holds the Guinness World Record for the most awarded short in history, with 324 awards around the world. (and counting)
