John Canemaker is a Director and Oscar winning filmmaker, writer, animation historian, teacher and artist. The Moon and the Sun is a 28 minute animated short film narrated by Eli Wallach and John Turturro and is based on Canemakers own turbulent relationship with his father. The Moon and the Son combines memory, fact, conjecture, trial transcripts, audio recordings, home movies, photos and original animation to tell the story of an Italian immigrant’s troubled life and the devastating consequences of his actions on his family. Im a big fan of the fluid, stream of consciousness visuals, and the handdrawn crafty feeling of the piece in general.
