There’s something reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s films in the matter of fact, removed tone of this slightly ominous yet strangely charming short by animators Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata aka: Tiny Inventions. This married directing team “spends most of their time hunched over things” and they received over 130 awards at 300+ film festivals worldwide including an Oscar nomination for Negative Space.
The film was Based on a 150-word poem by Ron Koertge. Tiny Inventions belabored using the actual materials – fabrics, plastics and leather – one would find in the life-sized versions of the numerous objects featured in this story about a relationship between father and son. I love this making of, and Ru’s not at all abashed confession at the end, “animators….we’re all crazy.”
